Cranberry beans

Borlotti beans: a symbol of Italy, for many people

Borlotti beans, cream-coloured with bright brown and dark red streaks, are a very common variety and are often used in the Mediterranean diet. These borlotti beans are the product of a long tradition that combines quality, taste and sustainability. Borlotti beans are also known as "cranberry beans", a variety particularly prized and appreciated for their large size.

Beans are a great alternative to animal protein, especially if combined with cereals. In addition to their attractive colour and delicious taste, they are a valuable source of protein, carbohydrates and mineral salts, as can be seen in the daily reference intake (RI%). Did you know that 70g of these beans provide approximately 32%* of your daily protein requirement?

Consigli di utilizzo

We recommend soaking these beans for 12 hours. After soaking, rinse them in cold water before putting them in a pot with 500ml of water for every 100g of beans.

Allow around 70g per person: bring the water to a boil before covering and cooking on a low heat for 60-65 mins.

Once cooked, add salt for flavour and to prevent the beans from becoming hard and crunchy. If using a pressure cooker the cooking time should be halved.
